Hooray for the bob. I’m a newish subscriber wondering where you find your Issey Miyake & The Row pieces. I’m hoping you’ll point me to a magic cavern with many pieces (esp Miyake), prices under $250, and free returns. You can do that, right?!

Haha almost! It's on my list to do a comprehensive newsletter on my secondhand shopping habits but mostly I shop on The RealReal (so sadly no free returns and often final sale and I've made some mistakes on there in the past lol). But! The RealReal often has very good prices. I have a bunch of saved searches on there, including for The Row and Issey Miyake and Pleats Please. Those are brands that don't tend to get discounted as much because they're in high demand, so the Issey pants I have that are pictured in this newsletter were $250, but they were in perfect condition and I've worn them so many times in the year and a half since buying that it was definitely worth it, and The Row coat was my most expensive TRR purchase at closer to $400 (bought off season in the summer, which is why I think it got so discounted. The product photos were also pretty bad so I found it on the runway to understand what it would actually look like). It's 100% double face cashmere from the runway 2014 collection and my most worn coat/top in the winter, so also super worth it. The boots were $200 and filled a need in my wardrobe for a polished black boot. The way I look at it: those brands tend to be worth it for the kinds of items I wear every day, since I want those to be elevated and have cool cuts and be made of great materials. I also use TRR for more fun pieces but I'm less willing to spend a lot of money on those since they won't get as much wear. I got a gorgeous Tory Burch dress from a pretty recent runway collection on TRR new with tags for $135 in December which was one of my more exciting finds recently! Lastly, I've had some great luck with the following brands in finding beautiful, high-quality pieces for pretty cheap on TRR: Eskandar (fabric quality is amazing), Oscar de La Renta, Skall Studio, Dries, Proenza Schouler, 3.1 Philip Lim, Etro, Escada. Since the best deals are sometimes final sale, I usually will do everything in my power to understand whether I'll actually wear the piece, so reverse Google image searching for any photos of it, consulting my moldboards, etc.

Thank you for this —itself a magic cavern! I had overlooked Eskandar, and looking again, I love them.

I did not watch the movie however I bobbed my hair last month taking a good 8 inches off, adding bangs and am leaning into my curls as well! It just feels more deliberate. And yes, perfect hovering above a turtleneck🙃

There was a long, long period in American history when the way a woman demonstrated she was independent and modern was by cutting her hair short. In addition to "An American in Paris," see "Roman Holiday," in which Audrey Hepburn goes on the lam from the royal palace and immediately has her long hair shorn. Free at last! (For a while, anyway.)

Yes! Agree 100%. It suits you 🧡 I switched from long brunette to blue bob and I absolutely love how much it helps me getting dressed in the morning! I can be more minimal, because my hair "does the talking", which also is helping me during my No Buy year. I haven't seen An American In Paris, but it's now on my list. 💖 (And Charade is an absolute dream)
